Best comfy cozy (but still cute) pants for winter study days

It’s getting cold, a wee bit chilly, and after having spent all of last year’s winter in bed wrapped in a big fluffy blanket, we are once again being thrust back into the freezing cold on campus uni mornings. Now unfortunately we can’t wear our pajamas and take a blanket to class, (I mean technically you can no-ones going to stop you but…) so here is a list of your must have winter pants for 2021.

  1. Corduroy pants

First on the list is corduroy, these are my absolute go tos this season, they’re warmer and much comfier than denim and just a whole lot more fun. I recommend a flared/bootlet cut, in both fun colours and neutrals, to either be the statementg of the outfit or to act as a substitute for denim jeans.

Sportsgirl has an amazing range at the moment in a series of colours and the cut works particularly well for shorter women, with them falling just below the ankle on me and I am 158cm tall, safe to say I bought these pants in every colour I could find. I have found the wide leg to be more comfortable than the flares but the flares are so much more fun, thereby making both important ivestments. This pants run at $80 a pair, if you hang out a little while though they are likely to go on sale soon.

Another brand that does great pants is Princess Highway, their designs focus more on toned back staple colours, but add details through cute embroidery and patches. Theor pants run at about the same price point as sportsgirl, though could be difficult to find a store that carries them nearby, your best bet would be Dangerfield or Myer. Find the bear detailed pants here and the floral ones here.

2. Yoga pants

This style of pants have recently made a come back, but this time known as “stretchy flares”, but we all know they’re just yoga pants. These pants are the best of both worlds, they’re comfy, they look like pyjamas and yet society accepts them, and it’s now considered a fashionable outfit to wear yoga pants with big baggy t-shirts and button downs that hide the 24 woolies chocolate cookies you ate for breakfast.

Currently I cannot get enough of Target and to be more precise the Lilly loves range, they make the best comfies pants, t-shirts and p-j’s honestly, the best, and so damn afordable, even more so since I think they’ve had a 20% off slae on the last three times I’ve walked in there. These pants are currently on special from $25 down to $20 and though only available in black now still very nice I have them in a light brown colour that I absolutely adore, they are slightly long on me and will eventually need hemming but I can just get away with them if i wear my platform sneakers with them.

Lily Loves Rib Flare Pants ($25)

My next favourite for yoga pants is Ghanda, they have a huge range of fun patterned bright coloured pants that often have matching tops or jumers, that make for the best low effort, but still fabulous lazy day look. These are some of my favourites of the collection of which there is probably 30 pairs. The prices all sit around $50, but make sure to check out the sale section becasue there is a huge range going for under $30.

Rosa Flares ($44.95)
Joplin Flares ($44.95)
Rosa Flares ($44.95)
Nancy Knit Flares ($29.00)

3. Blanket/tapestry pants

Now the name suggests it they are warm and they’re cozy like wearing a blanket on your legs, which is effectively what it is. Now unfortunatly this style has yet to have properly reached mainstream fashion and so your best bets on getting your hands on some of these are to pull out the ol’ sewing machine and give them a crack yourself or to look on small shops on Etsy or Aliexpress, though it will likely set you back $200, where creators may be selling their products find the butterflies here and the Jesus ones here. Here are a few I’ve found as well as some video DIY tutorials, and some cute as blankets that would make the best pants ever. Blankets can be found at lady, tigers, vegetables, these blankets typically range between $20 and $60, though if this is still too expensive gove the thrift shop a try.

This is a particularly good one as it will also take you through the process of drafting your own pattern from a pair of pants you already have.

4. Wide leg Tailored pants

These are a more comfortable take on the classic tailored pant, and are currently a very popular everyday casual option, that are easy to wear, comfier than jeans and able to be styled into a wide range of differnet styles. Some good ones are the Abba Trousers from Motel rocks that come in a series of different colours including black, cream, peach, and more, these pants currently cost $90 which is not bad for what they are.

Another good option are the cotton on Roy split hem Pant, which are a slightly more casual option that feature a small cutout at the ankle these pants cost $45 a pair and come in a few different neutral colours.

5. Embroidered denim

Now you may be asking why? Why is this not simply just denim jeans well because these are superior, and you cannot convince me otherwise. I mean it just completely applifies your look esspecially if you put in the effort to do it yourself, which I would recommend as embroidery is surprisingly easy to learn, with all of the videos and tutorials available now. The prices tend to also be quite a bit higher than your typica; jeans with lowest ones at about $30 from SHEIN and the better quality nice designs ranging anywhere up to $600.

Abbey Jeans ($69.95)
