How to make money on My time at Portia.

The money in My Time at Portia, at first really confused me as it seemed you didn’t need it all that much, as all of your tools and resources could be easily found from missions and scavenging, and it wasn’t until I was quite a ways into the game and my focus turned from becoming the best builder in Portia and progressing the story, to making myself the best house and marrying our favourite Portia ginger Arlo. It was at this point I realised just how much money I would need because sure the house upgrade is cheap but the house’s size just about quadruples in size, which is where the real money comes in, in that you’re going to have to buy a lot of land. So how do you make money in my time at Portia?

  1. Fishing: At first I didn’t fish at all I didn’t even bother to go to the first fishing festival because I didn’t have a fishing rod, a massive mistake by the way. But once I realised I needed money I started heading off to a fishing spot every night and fishing through until 3 am. You can easily catch over a couple thousand every night depending on where you fish, and this number can increase a crazy amount if you get lucky and catch a couple of king fish valued at 5000 gols. It is also important for me to note that there is not just one king fish for each type they are just rare so don’t be afraid to sell them.
  2. farming: Another valuable resource in the game that I actively chose not to use at the start as I saw no point to, is farming, in fact, you probably approached farming similarly to as I did when I first got my planter box whereupon I maybe planted 2 crops then gave up because I had a very small inventory size so couldn’t carry the fertiliser around all of the time, and couldn’t be bothered to retrieve it either. That being said once you have a big enough inventory put it in your easy access bar and leave it there. That way you plant crops and easily fertilise them every time you go past, or you can hire Ack to do this for you, or lock in a partner that will do it every morning.
  3. Little tasks and missions: on those days where you already have 7 missions on the go, do not forget to do your commerce commission for the day. Not only will this keep your position in the commerce guild ranking high, there are often quick and easy D class tasks that will take minimal to no effort on your part and bring in a bit of income as well as better your relationships with the townspeople.
  4. Craft to sell: By the end of the first year you’re going to have a lot of sand =, and by a lot I mean a lot, thousands of units of it. Now you can of course sell that at the flat rate of 1 unit for 1 gols, or you can set your furnaces to work to make glass. 8 sand can become 1 glass worth 12 gols 1.5x its initial value, this can be sold as-is on high value selling days or can then be turned into strange mirrors, with some hardwood which after the tree farm is repaired you should have an abundant supply of. This will take a bit of extra effort and is not as quick as fishing for money but a good way to get rid of excess raw materials and make extra money off of them. This can naturally be applied to many different craftables.
  5. Try not to time skip: Though it may seem tempting to go home and sleep when there’s seemingly nothing left to do for that day as you’re waiting for your machines to finish producing, try to play out the whole day, this will ensure that you can make the most money as quickly as possible. Head off to the Hazardous ruins and do a run-through on one of the easier levels or o mining or fishing, even just on a scavenge through the nearby field to get some more raw resources, everything adds up and helps you to progress faster.
