I have always been interested in video games, so much so that now at the age of 20 I am endevouring to make my own. I am entering this experience with very little knowledge and have thus far found the internet, though usually a trove of information for everything and anything, lacks an in depth tutorial on how to do so. So basically this will become a log of sorts and potentially and hopefully of I complete it and thus my goal a useful tool for anyone else looking to enter the world of game development.
My game
I grew up on a farm, loved every moment of it, but now I spend most of my time cooped up in a university library in the middle of the city. And so in order to try and bring the farm back into my life I went in search of a farm game that would enable me to live virtually back at home. I however, came up dissapointed with many of the farming games aimed towards cropping and or small backyard vegetable patches, offering none of the at home animal breeding and care that I was used to. So I hope that in the end I can create a rather in depth farming game. Though I can see this being a long term goal as it may take many many years to bring to life. I plan instead to start off small create a mobile app, with a virtual farm, all through a series of menus as oppossed to a real life sort of experience and build up from there.
Below will be a collection of sites and videos I have expolored this week in order to learn more on how to get started.
This weeks acheivements
- choose a game development engine
- create rough sketches for main menus and overall appearance
- work on descriptions of in-game features
